Pennsylvania College of Art & Design is taking the next step in its development as a regional leader in art and design education by opening the all-new “Design Center at PCA&D.”
A public dedication of the Design Center will be held at PCA&D on September 9, 2010 at 9 a.m. You are invited to attend.
Guests will hear from students who will share their visions for how the Design Center will prepare them as they transition from student to professional artist. PCA&D President Mary Colleen Heil will welcome guests, and you'll hear from members of the faculty. The Center will also be open for tours.
Visit PCA&D on Facebook for photos taken during construction.
The Design Center is a 9,200 square foot expansion that cost approximately $650,000 to build. It is part of a $1.5 million facility enhancement to the buildings PCA&D owns at 204 and 202 North Prince Street in Lancaster. The Center will greatly expand the cross-department collaborative nature of PCA&D's curriculum, which features real-world projects from outside clients: It's a confluence of current technology with art & design education.
“The Design Center will assist our students in achieving excellence across the board and in every major," states Matthew Ivan Cherry, academic dean at PCA&D. “It will enable students from all disciplines to connect their creative energies in one dynamic environment.”
Echoing his enthusiasm is Robert Hochgertel, chair of the PCA&D illustration department and long-time faculty member. Bob expects “the activity in the Design Center to be great: It will serve as a vibrant hub for learning at the College… its facilities will also help [students and faculty] to integrate digital technologies in their learning, teaching, and professional lives.”
Prospective students who are interested in attending central Pennsylvania’s only professional art college should contact an admissions representative to learn how the Center will expand and enahnce the learning opportunities at PCA&D.
