A bit of PCA&D in the upcoming PechaKucha

. . .

Wednesday, November 19th, 2014

PCA&D Gallery Director, faculty member, and artist Heidi Leitzke will be among the presenters during Lancaster’s upcoming PechaKucha Night.

On November 25 at 7 p.m., Leitzke will be one of eight presenters who, for exactly six minutes, forty seconds, will make a presentation about their work, life, or whatever.

Leitzke will focus on the connection between her studio work as an artist and her work as gallery director at PCA&D, as exemplified by a curatorial project held in spring 2014 entitled “Folklore, original Fraktur drawings in conversation with contemporary works of art.” Her approach shows a specific creative process which led to an event, held in Lancaster, celebrating local heritage and illuminating its value in a contemporary context. Themes evident in the Fraktur are also of significance to Leitzke’s studio work, and she will touch on that connection, as well.

PechaKucha Night will be held at Tellus Three Sixty, 24 East King Street in downtown Lancaster.

What is PechaKucha 20×20?

The format was devised by Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham of Klein Dytham architecture. The first PechaKucha Night was held in Tokyo in 2003.

PechaKucha 20×20 is a simplified presentation format where you share/show 20 images, each for 20 seconds. The images advance automatically and presenters talk along with each image. Thus, presentations lasts for only six minutes, forty seconds. This quirky presentation format is set in informal, fun gatherings where creative people get together to share ideas, works, and thoughts.

Think of PechaKucha as a Twitter-ized version of the renowned Ted Talks.
