Scullin, a realist painter, earned his BFA from The Ohio State University and his MFA from Pennsylvania State University. He also has attended the Skowhegan School of Sculpture and Painting in New York. Featured in more than a dozen one-person shows, Scullin writes in his artist statement that he has “always explored a realism that has the grandness of the Baroque that is imbued with a feeling of mystery.” His allegorical paintings “investigate themes of history, enigma, and morality,” using bright colors and supernatural effects. Also included in the retrospective are paintings from Scullin’s other explorations, such as his travels in America’s Southwest and his hyperpersonal “Bodyscapes.”
