Linda King Brown
Chair of Liberal Arts, Assistant Professor
Linda King Brown teaches composition, communication, and literature courses in the Liberal Arts Department at PCA&D and facilitates the BFA writing program. She explored the intersection of poetry and art as an undergraduate English major and art history minor at Hobart & William Smith Colleges in Geneva, New York, and then earned a master’s degree in magazine journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University in Chicago.
From there, she headed 30 miles out to sea to become a staff reporter for the Nantucket Island Inquirer & Mirror. Years of freelance writing gigs and a keen interest in teaching writing to art and design students eventually led her to PCA&D in the fall of 2005.
As department chair, Linda believes the Liberal Arts coursework at the college offers students the opportunity to refine their academic and professional skills while exploring subjects beyond their major. “This can become a powerful well of inspiration, sometimes informing students’ visual work. One of the primary goals of the department is to teach students how to recognize the rich connections between their studio and liberal arts courses – to encourage them to expand their educational experience in ways that may be challenging, eye-opening, and rewarding.”
