Original Fraktur drawings in conversation with contemporary works of art. Including works by Amy Cutler, Benjamin Edmiston, Clare Grill, Baker Overstreet and Clare Rojas.  Special thanks to The Phillips Museum at Franklin and Marshall College and LancasterHistory.org for lending Fraktur from their collections for this exhibition.

folklorecard“Folklore is a special exhibit featuring original, historical Pennsylvania Dutch Fraktur folk art drawings brought into the context of similarly themed artworks created in our time. Showing these drawings, paintings and prints together creates the opportunity for rich conversations about works of art created at different points in history. Themes evident in this selection of art include the way a particular occasion of event is commemorated; the manner in which personal histories of mythologies are created; and the tensions among strong visual components such as color, shape, and pattern when compressed in a flat space. Perhaps a convincing starting point for this dialogue is the humble yet enduring power of visual forms hand-drawn on paper.” —-Heidi Leitzke, PCA&D Gallery Director
