You might not need an excuse to check on Instagram again … and again … and again…

But on Oct 2 and 3, you’ll have one anyway.

Jeremy Friend, an Adjunct in Handlettering and Art of the Poster, has been tapped to take over curation at Goodtype, a showcase of the letter arts and a place to discover lettering artists and illustrators from around the world. It’s an immense feed, with more than a million followers, and Goodtype itself organizes workshops and links artists with jobs and with each other.

As guest curator, Friend says, he’s supposed to provide a featured post every three or four hours, creating an Instagram story. “I’ll be featuring some people that I find to be inspirational and who I think merit more exposure,” he says. “These will probably be of most interest to the school’s design and illustration students.

“The first day I take over .. I will be in (PCA&D’s) printmaking lab doing a screen printing demo! So I’ll be taking some video to share in the Goodtype stories,” and will be tagging PCA&D for the global audience following along.

An active maker/designer, Friend has extensive experience in branding/identity, logo development, typography, hand-lettering, and editorial design, working with clients such as Coach, YouTube, Entertainment Weekly, JORD, and the Urban Land Institute, and also serves on the adjunct faculty of Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore. He is a veteran of both the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps, and earned his BFA in Graphic Design from Minneapolis College of Art + Design in Minnesota.
