This “alla prima” painting class explores the fundamentals of painting the figure from life. Color mixing, proportions, composition, gesture, light behavior, and likeness in relation to realism are some of the topics explained and demonstrated. Aids in seeing and conceptualizing the inspired artistic vision will be employed. * Note: This class utilizes a nude model. *

This course must meet minimum enrollment by October 1 in order to run. Register today!

You will need the following supplies for this class

  • 4 surfaces to paint on: gessoed canvas, panel, or watercolor paper; canvas or oil paper. (3 coats of gesso if gessoing)
  • Oil or Acrylic paints:
    • Ultramarine blue
    • Alizarin Crimson
    • Cadmium Red
    • Cadmium Yellow
    • Light Yellow Ochre
    • Titanium or Flake White
    • Ivory Black
  • Palette Knife
  • Palette (paper, glass, or wood)
  • Variety of brushes of medium firmness and one or two firm bristle brushes of medium size.
  • Linseed or walnut oil
  • Glass or metal jar with sealable lid for medium
