Description

Walking in nature, with all of its colors, sights, and sounds, is a powerful way to engage the whole body, one of the most important observation “tools” we have for making sense of our environment and experiences. The freedom to explore outside at our own pace, away from technology and other distractions, has the potential to stimulate our senses and rejuvenate our bodies and minds. We’ll engage our senses of seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, and tasting as well as movement, balance, proprioception (awareness of one’s body in space and in relation to itself) and interoception (awareness of one’s inner bodily experience). We’ll explore the park as a group, in pairs, and on our own. Some of the time we’ll move in silence, slowly, paying close attention to what we perceive through our bodies, our senses, in relationship with our surroundings. By not talking, writing, or taking pictures, we can more fully immerse ourselves in the present moment and open ourselves to the subtler, more nuanced aspects of experiences. At other times, we’ll reflect on our experiences in writing, conversation, and making art. This multi-sensory experience is open to people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.

NOTE: This workshop will meet at Lancaster County Park. The exact location for this workshop will be provided upon registration. In the event of inclement weather, this workshop will take place on PCA&D’s campus at 204 N. Prince Street, Lancaster, PA.
