This figure drawing course will cover the fundamental concepts of beginning, rendering, and completing a realistic figure drawing from life. Translating the three dimensional into the two dimensional takes practice in seeing, material handling, and methods of conceptualizing. This class is suitable for those familiar with the figure as well as those that are beginners.  ** Note this course will be utilizing a nude model **

This is a credit-bearing course. Attendance and engagement will impact your final grade.

Supply List

  • Drawing/Drafting board EXAMPLE
  • 300 lb + drawing paper OR newsprint paper (for warm-ups) and hot or cold pressed watercolor paper (for more finished drawings) no smaller than 11″ x 14″
  • Graphite pencils in 4H, 2H, HB, 2B, 4B
  • Willow/Vine Charcoal
  • Compressed charcoal or charcoal pencils
  • Kneaded eraser
  • Eraser (mechanical erasers/rectangular plastic erasers)
  • Pencil sharpener OR razor blade and sand paper for sharpening
  • Tortillion (paper blending stump) and/or Chamois cloth
