Artist Talk: Visual artist Kristen Mills

The Foundation Department welcomes Kristen Mills for a lecture Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 12:45 pm in the Atrium. All are welcome to attend. Mills is an interdisciplinary visual artist splitting her time between Woodstock and Brooklyn, NY, and her work engages in a variety of strategies: video, installation, comedic performances, and teaching in an ongoing investigation into what makes something believable. As part of her studio research, she has been an artist in residence at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Vermont Studio Center, Sculpture Space, Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, and MacDowell. She is a current recipient of the 2024-2025 Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program. “I use video and images to engage with timing and humor,” Mills says in her artist statement. “I use myself as a surrogate for others, freeing me to poke fun at pop-cultural assumptions and behaviors … My work embraces deliberate exaggeration and the intentional obscuring of boundaries between high and low culture.”
