Artworks created in this workshop will be displayed in the Youth Climate Art Exhibition at PCA&D’s Welcome Center (241 North Prince Street) from November 8-15, 2026 in conjunction with the RegenAll Climate Summit. 

 

• Instructor: Illustrator and PCA&D Graduate Laurence Jacoby
• Saturday, October 17
• 10 AM – 12 PM
• Description: This is a mini-zine making class for students in grades 7-10. This class will cover how to make an 8-page mini-zine and its many uses. The main goal of this class is to understand what goes into making a mini-zine and how they can be used as a tool for communicating ideas and opinions through art. In addition to mini-zine production, students will learn mixed-media techniques; they will first brainstorm ideas for their zines and create a hard copy by collaging from recycled magazines and hand-drawn illustrations. Then, once they are done with their hard copy, they will learn how to copy and fold their zines. Walking away with 6 mini zines with their idea of a more environmentally conscious future.

• Description: Combining skills in collage and erasure, this session introduces students to the myriad ways of crafting visual poems. Supplies will be provided—all you need to bring is an eye for the arrangement of text and images. Led by the Department Chair of the Creative Writing BFA, Caitlin Downs, the session is a guided opportunity to build your own visual narrative.

• Description: There are endless ways to find and use our creative voices to uplift and advocate for things important to us! In this workshop, students in grades 4-6 will learn more about how poetry can communicate our values by using found objects and magazines to write their own blackout poem. Together, we’ll explore examples of collage poems and discuss how to reuse materials to create something new before writing and collaging our own!

• Description: In this workshop, we will be making a farm or river scene out of recycled materials. The goal for this class is to use our materials to create a fun and cool collage of the scene while we think about ways to continue to recycle and keep our planet healthy. Let’s go experiment with all sorts of random materials we can recycle and reuse to make a really cool landscape!
