Pressed Into Being
Mickey Hess '25, 2025-2026 Fine Artist in Residence
Pennsylvania College of Art & Design is proud to present Pressed Into Being, work by Fine Art Alumni Mickey Hess. This exhibition is the culmination of Hess’s time as PCA&D’s 2025-2026 Fine Artist in Residence. The exhibition runs from July 17 – September 13, 2026 with a public reception in the College’s Main Gallery for First Friday on September 4, 2026, from 5-8 pm.
Pressed Into Being is a collection of reduction linoleum prints that question what remains after hardship and what continues to grow. Using floral imagery as a metaphor for memory, healing, and resilience, these works function as emotional self-portraits, reflecting experiences of loss, endurance, vulnerability, and transformation. Each print explores the tension between fragility and strength. Through carving, layering, and repetition, the work honors the ongoing process of becoming.
