Friday, March 24th, 2017
Congratulations to Abigail Bonett, Illustration, Class of 2017, for having her piece, Month of Love, accepted for the 2017 Society of Illustrators Student Competition.
Bonett completed this piece in her Illustration Studio class in response to the Community Challenge Project, which focused on solving problems for an active online community challenge. This project was completed for The Month of Love Challenge.
The Society of Illustrators holds this competition every year accepting 300 illustrations from numerous colleges around the world. This year 2,349 students submitted multiple pieces from 78 schools (rough estimation of about 7,000 – 9,000 images). The accepted images are published along with the student and college’s name in a catalog that goes out to hundreds of Art Directors, agents and publishing houses in the nation.
A jury of professional peers, including illustrators and art directors, selects those which will be in the Society’s exhibition, judging on the basis ofthe quality of technique, concept, and skill of medium used. Scholarship awards will be granted to 25 students whose work is deemed the best of the best.
This is the first time that PCA&D has been represented among the colleges who submit entries in the yearly competition.
Bonett’s piece will be on display at the Society of Illustrators, 63rd and Lexington, New York from May 9 – June 3. The awards ceremony and opening reception will be held on Friday May 12.
