Public invited to virtual Constitution Day program Sept. 30: Celebrate the right to vote

The PCA&D community will be exploring the right to vote, the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment, and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 during the College’s 2020 Constitution Day celebration Wednesday, Sept. 30, from 1-2 pm.

Panelists include:

• Dr. Louise Stevenson, Professor of History and American Studies and Former Chair of Women Studies at Franklin & Marshall College;
• Christina Hess, Chair of Illustration at PCA&D and designer of the United States Mint’s silver dollar coin commemorating the 19th Amendment;
• and a representative from Lancaster Votes, a nonpartisan organization dedicating to encouraging voter registration and participation.

From the history of securing the right to vote and Hess’s artistic rendering of women’s suffrage to voter registration and the logistics of voting in the upcoming election, the program is planned to be an engaging and expansive conversation about the fight for the constitutional right to vote as well as voting in the historic election on November 3, 2020.
