Friday, January 26th, 2018

Senior designer, Emily White, York, PA, received an honorable mention in the Independent Cosmetic Manufacturers and Distributors (ICMAD) association’s 2017-2018 Young Designers Package Design Competition. Annually, students in Tom Newmaster’s Package Design class create packaging for fictitious cosmetic brands for the competition, which draws entries from 27 college programs throughout the United States.

This is the third time PCA&D has received recognition in the competition. In 2015 Kyle Newkirk received third place. In 2017, Maranda Bressi won second place.

Judging was based on specific “real world” criteria and judges are selected for their expertise in the package design field. According to communications from the ICMAD, judges for the competition considered many qualities in selecting the winners of the competition

  • Conception – from the idea to execution to positioning the product in the market
  • Product needed to be eye-catching, creative.
  • Craftmanship of the product provided – originality on style
  • Both the primary and secondary marketing were important.
  • Clarity of the information on the product and in the materials.
  • Make the product functional.
  • Have the appearance of real-life.
  • Design, Marketing, and Packaging.

After the February event, top 10 entries, including White’s, will travel the globe promoting the Young Designers Package Design Competition and the ICMAD.  Locations for the traveling exhibitions include Italy, Hong Kong, Dubai, and India.
