Beginning with the popular Faculty Biennial and including notable artists from around the Americas, including the return to PCA&D of alumni Pacifico Salano, exhibits on PCA&D’s Main Gallery bring to Lancaster unique perspectives of today’s working artists.

Located at 204 North Prince Street, the Main Gallery at PCA&D is located at the start of Lancaster’s Gallery Row. Admission is always free and open to the public. Handicap Accessible.

The Project Mosaic 2018 : Stan Squirewell & Maria Dumlao

The significance of art in the lives of our youth cannot be underestimated. Yet, just when research is finally emerging that supports this, budget cuts and curricular demands are threatening the foundation of creativity in our public schools. In order to fill that gap as well as enrich the community, Pennsylvania College of Art & Design developed The Mosaic Project, a multicultural exhibition and education program for students and families in Lancaster County.

Stan Squirewell, painter, photographer, installation and performance artist, was born in Washington, DC and currently lives and works in New York, NY. His work is multilayered and his subject matter tackles themes such as: race and memory through mythology, sacred geometry and science. He draws his inspiration from theory books, science fiction movies and novels, avant-garde jazz and indigenous storytelling. He is a (2007 MFA) graduate of the Hoffberger School of Painting where he studied with the late, Grace Hartigan. Mr. Squirewell is the first winner of the Rush Philanthropic and Bombay Sapphire Artisan series. He has performed with Nick Cave (SoundSuits) at the National Portrait Gallery and Jefferson Pinder with G-Fine Arts. Artist Lecture: October 5, 10:00 a.m., in the PCA&D Atrium.

Maria Dumlao, a visual artist working in various combined media, including film, video, sound, photography, and installation, was born in the Philippines and immigrated to the USA with her family. She received a BA in Studio Art & Art History from Rutgers College and a MFA in Studio Art at Hunter College-CUNY. Dumlao is currently an Associate Professor at Bucks County Community College. Since moving to Philadelphia in 2009, Dumlao has been involved in artist collectives including Vox Populi, where she is currently an artist member. Her recent work explores individual and collective history as viewed through lenses of history, popular culture, mythic folklore, landscapes, and creatures, and proposes alternatives to the systemic representations ordered by colonial narratives. Pacifico Silano, PCA&D Photography major from the Class of ’08,  is a lens-based artist whose work is an exploration of print culture, the circulation of imagery and LGBTQ identity. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he received his MFA in Photography from the School of Visual Arts.

His work has been exhibited in group shows, including at the Bronx Museum; Tacoma Art Museum; Oude Kerk, Amsterdam; and ClampArt, New York City. He has had solo shows at ClampArt, New York City and Baxter ST@CCNY. Reviews of his work have appeared in The New Yorker, Artforum, Washington Post and The New York Times.

He is a winner of the Individual Photographer’s Fellowship from the Aaron Siskind Foundation and a Finalist for the Aperture Foundation Portfolio Prize.

He is a 2016 fellow in Photography with the New York Foundation for the Arts. A selection of his work will be included in the upcoming exhibition “Fantasy America” at The Warhol Museum in 2020.

Bruno Miguel is a Brazilian artist who makes art from found objects. Miguel has a talent for transforming junk into art in a most playful way and is He is influenced by Brazilian Tropicália, International Pop Art, and Rio Carnival. Miguel earned a degree in Fine Arts and Painting from the School of Visual Arts at Federal University in Rio de Janeiro.He has had solo exhibitions at Largo das Artes, Rio de Janeiro (2010); Museum Paço Imperial, Rio de Janeiro (2016); Centro Cultural da Caixa Econômica Federal, Rio de Janeiro; and Centro Cultural São Paulo (2016).
