Illustrator Ayana Janell McGaw does a little bit of everything, including portraiture, landscapes, children’s books, and character design. While most of her work is created digitally, McGaw always sketches things out in her notebook first. As a biracial woman, diversity is an important theme explored in her work. McGaw’s senior thesis project is a coloring book featuring four friends of different races and ethnicities, including an African American character with the skin condition vitiligo. During her time at PCA&D, McGaw completed a mentorship with the artist Isabelle Staub. Following graduation, she plans to license her artwork and illustrate children’s books.
