Esta Tierra Es Tu Tierra by Erick Antonio Benitez
Erick Antonio Benitez is bringing his immersive multimedia exhibition, Esta Tierra Es Tu Tierra (This Land Is Your Land), to PCA&D after its successful runs at Current Gallery (Baltimore, Md.) and the Baltimore Museum of Art. At a time when border control and immigration policy is headlining news daily, Benitez uses his aesthetic to provide a different perspective on the topic.
Through photography, found objects, and video that he collected along the U.S. and Mexico borders, Benitez tells the stories of what has become known as “border culture,” where the lives of immigrants, residents, Minutemen, and border patrol converge. The approach is not new for Benitez, as he often uses multidisciplinary installations to investigate nationality, immigration, and other global issues.
Benitez is a Salvadorian-American artist, musician, organizer, and curator based in Baltimore. He earned his BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and has exhibited all over the world, including Washington, D.C., New York, and Barcelona.
