STUDIO

The Pennsylvania College of Art & Design is seeking a pool of qualified applicants for possible future adjunct credit teaching positions. Positions will be filled on an as-needed basis. The college has BFA programs in Animation & Game Art, Fine Art, Graphic Design, Illustration, Live Experience Design & Production, and Photography & Video. Additionally, we are seeking resumes for our studio Foundation program.

General Responsibilities:

The adjunct faculty member shall be responsible for the following: teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the Department Chair; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in his/her regular teaching field; continuing professional development; utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of an adjunct faculty member as outlined in the college faculty handbook.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree (Masters degree preferred) from an accredited institution or equivalent professional experience
  • College-level teaching experience highly preferred
  • Experience designing curriculum and measuring student performance preferred
  • Commitment to the highest level of academic standards and integrity
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
  • Active affiliation and participation in relevant professional organizations.
  • Active online presence with current examples of professional and personal work

LIBERAL ARTS

The Liberal Arts Department at Pennsylvania College of Art & Design invites applications for adjunct and full-time faculty with specialized knowledge in the general humanities, art history, verbal and visual communications, social sciences, math, and sciences fields. Candidates must have a Masters degree in a field related to the subject being taught. At least two years of teaching experience at the higher education level preferred.

Job Title: Recruitment Events and Operations Coordinator

Overview: 

Pennsylvania College of Art & Design (PCA&D) is a private, independent college of art and design with more than 400 students who are pursuing art as their life’s work. The College is distinguished by its interactive classes, deeply focused one-on-one attention to students, and the strong and exceptional engagement of faculty. Visual, verbal, and virtual communication is increasingly valued in a global society, so the College’s curriculum emphasizes the relationships among thinking, making, and communicating. PCA&D is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) and is a member of the Association of Independent Colleges of Art & Design (AICAD).

Summary: 

This is a multifaceted role that effectively supports the needs of prospective students and enrollment staff. This role is a balance of administrative tasks and functions with more sophisticated events planning, local relationship building, and oversight of students. 

Essential Functions of Position:  

Events and Programs:

  • Coordinate logistics, implement plans, and organize participants in on-site and online admissions events, tours, and meetings. Apply best practices for program planning and use program evaluations for continuous improvement. Drive collaboration with other departments for signature enrollment events like open houses and accepted student days.
  • Coordinate campus tours for individuals and groups of prospective students and strategic partners.
  • Assist with the administration of the Admissions Student Ambassador Program. 
  • Work with other campus stakeholders to support the engagement of alumni and parents in admissions events.
  • Assist with appropriate collaboration with the Center for Creative Exploration and Continuing Education and Dual Enrollment programs to support shared institutional goals. 

In-House Admission Coordinator:

  • Greets guests, serves as the initial point of contact, and provides immediate customer service to candidates or other community members when they contact the office via email, phone, or during campus visits. Connects candidates with their personal counselor or other departments to facilitate a convenient and friendly customer experience.
  • Assists with the application process for dual enrollment students in collaboration with team members in admissions and the Center for Creative Exploration and Continuing Education. 
  • Coordinates outreach to lapsed students who are eligible for re-admission.

Local Relationship Building:

  • Plans and coordinates special programs for local schools, high school and transfer counselors, and organizations. 
  • Attend recruitment events locally as needed. 

Office Duties:

  • Processes a high volume of prospective student inquiries, sends applicant and admitted student materials, and answers questions from prospective students and their families.
  • Helps organize the physical office environment to provide a space that is inviting to guests, promotes a positive atmosphere, and enables all team members to work productively together. 
  • Assists with daily operations and general office support for the Office of Admissions, including sharing in College responsibility for mail delivery and main College phone operator role (e.g., fielding general phone calls and directing callers to appropriate departments) with colleagues from across the College.
  • Tracks departmental purchases and coordinate expense reports. Monitors supplies and inventory. 

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent of education and experience. 
  • 3-5 years of professional experience in a higher education environment and/or administrative capacity is a plus.  
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse communities and strong interpersonal skills to serve individuals and groups from a wide array of backgrounds, identities, ages, life experiences, and communication styles.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite/Gmail, and comfortable working with an admissions CRM system (e.g., Slate).
  • Reliable, detail–oriented, and organized with the ability to juggle many different projects simultaneously, with accuracy, follow-through, and timely completion of projects in a fast-paced and deadline-driven office.
  • Ability to take initiative, problem solve, and work independently with good judgment about when to seek direction.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service with a welcoming and proactive approach to answering questions and providing support. 
  • Strong communication skills to express ideas clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing. 
  • Collaborative work style in a team-oriented environment, which fosters and maintains strong relationships with campus and external partners 
  • Ability to recognize and protect confidential information in accordance with FERPA and exercise judgment, tact, and diplomacy in handling sensitive information and situations.
  • Flexible schedule to work events outside of regular business hours and weekends. 
  • Must possess a valid PA driver’s license, a clean driving record, and access to a reliable vehicle at all times.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • The employee will work in a well-lighted, ventilated office/academic environment.
  • Position requires seeing, hearing, speaking, grasping, sitting, standing, walking, and the ability to drive.
  • Must navigate stairs, elevators, and a variety of office and classroom spaces. 
  • May require visiting high schools, colleges, and other off-site locations.
  • Must be able to lift 20 pounds.
