David I. Buckman, EVP and General Counsel of Allied Universal, was presented with Pennsylvania College of Art & Design’s most prestigious board honor, the Kenneth R. Bernhardt Award, at the College’s February Board of Trustees Meeting.
The Bernhardt Award was named for Kenneth R. Bernhardt who was appointed to the Board of Trustees in 1984 and was a strong supporter of the School through most of its young life. He was elected chairman of the board in 1993 serving for four years. He was an inspiring leader and generous contributor. He served 13 years with distinction.
Buckman is only the third recipient of the award, given for “Exceptional Leadership and Service to the Board.” According to Robert Brandt, PCA&D Board Chair, “In naming David I. Buckman as the 2017 recipient of the Kenneth R. Bernhardt Award, Pennsylvania College of Art & Design’s Board of Trustees affirms the highest standards of volunteerism to which an individual may aspire.”
Buckman was elected to the Board of Trustees in 2009. Said Brandt, “His commitment to the College, its long-term goals, and the health of the board was evident when he agreed to serve two terms as board chair from 2014 to 2017. He has guided the college through challenging and prosperous times. Always leading with a steady hand and an optimistic and positive vision. And as if that wasn’t enough, David has chaired the most important committee this board of Trustee’s could possibly empanel, The Presidential Search Committee.”
“The entire College family has benefitted from David’s efforts. From the quality of its education to the value a PCA&D degree holds. David’s efforts have made a lasting impact. We hope this small token will always remind David that his unwavering commitment to the advancement of the College is humbly and affectionately appreciated,” said Brandt.
