Liberal Arts Chair Linda King Brown named Dean of Faculty

Linda King Brown, Assistant Professor and Chair of Liberal Arts, will serve in a pilot role as Dean of Faculty.
In this role Brown, who has been a faculty member at the College since 2005, and full-time since 2009, will serve as a liaison on behalf of faculty to campus stakeholders and community partners. This blended role will include teaching, administrative leadership, assessment, and accreditation responsibilities. In particular, she will serve as faculty liaison to the Academic Affairs division, leading faculty governance efforts, assisting and advising Academic Affairs in program review structures, supporting processes for institutional review, and overseeing student learning assessment.
Brown’s new role was announced Jan. 20 by Dr. Carissa Massey, Provost of PCA&D.
“After 15 years, PCA&D feels like home to me,” Brown said. “I am deeply inspired by the commitment of the College’s adjunct, part-time, and full-time faculty to partner with each and every student who walks through these doors so that they can reach their full potential as artists, designers, and global citizens. I look forward to collaborating with them and all campus stakeholders as Dean of Faculty so we can enhance our commitment to creating an innovative academic program for our students.”

In addition to teaching composition, communication, and literature courses at the college, Brown oversees the BFA writing program and will soon be leading a Writing Across the Curriculum initiative in conjunction with the co-directors of the Writing Center and a pan-institutional steering committee. She also currently serves as the faculty trustee on PCA&D’s Board of Trustees.
As an undergraduate English major and art history minor at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, N.Y., Brown explored the intersection of poetry and art. She then earned a master’s degree in magazine journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University in Chicago. She continues to write poetry and led the poetry selection committee for the poem “All Times and All Tenses Alive In this Moment” by National Book Award recipient Mary Szybist, which was installed in the College’s portico in 2012 by PCA&D alumni Root 222 as part of the citywide Poetry Paths project.
She is grateful and excited to take on this new role in Academic Affairs at the College, especially at such an exciting time in the college’s growth as an institution.
