Public talk: Daryl Davis, musician, racial harmony activist

PCA&D’s Liberal Arts Department is excited to welcome the College community and the public to the Diverse Voices Speaker Series: The Voice and Music of Daryl Davis Friday, Oct. 4. Davis will speak at 3:30 pm in the Atrium, and perform his award-winning boogie-woogie blues piano music at 6 pm. Both events are free and open to the public and the College community. 

 

Davis is the author of Klan-destine Relationships: A Black Man’s Odyssey, and the author and subject of an Independent Lens documentary, Accidental Courtesy: Daryl Davis, Race, & America. The musician and activist has used his music to break down racial barriers, interviewing Ku Klux Klan members, some of whom ended up becoming his close friends and giving him their robes and hoods. Davis also has performed extensively with Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Legendary Blues Band (formerly The Muddy Waters Blues Band), and Elvis Presley’s Jordainaires, along with The Temptations, Little Richard, and B.B. King. Davis runs a podcast, Changing Minds, with diverse guests such as former KKK Imperial Wizard Scott Sheperd, blues guitarist Bob Margolin, and documentary film director and human rights activist Deeyah Khan.
