Coming Into View

A collection of art & artists self-defining what it means to be emerging.

Get a glimpse of artists defining what it means to be “emerging” with the opening of Coming Into View: A collection of art and artists self-defining what it means to be emerging, opening Jan. 15 in the Main Gallery of Pennsylvania College of Art & Design (PCA&D), 204 N. Prince St., Lancaster.

Filling the Gallery through March 1, Coming Into View is curated by Ophelia Chambliss, an experienced working visual artist and muralist; Karim Gavins, a PCA&D Photography graduate working as an artist and lab technician; and Lynzee Littlejohn, an Art graduate of Millersville University.

“My hope for this exhibition is for … creatives to realize their potential through an opportunity that encourages and acknowledges their talent,” Chambliss says. “Many/most artists are filled with self-doubt and really need to just be seen to give them that extra push to launch themselves into a unique and self-rewarding career.”

Artists on display are living and producing artwork in Lancaster and York counties.

“This exhibition explores the diversity of ways an artist can be ‘emerging’, says Alex Schaufele, PCA&D Director of Exhibitions. “It’s a pleasure to share the work of early career artists and from those making a drastic shift in their creative practice. Chambliss and the fellows did a wonderful job selecting emerging artists to represent Lancaster and York counties.”

Coming into View was partially supported by a grant from the Anne & Philip Glatfelter III Family Foundation.

Participating artist include Matthew Apol, Tyler Bunty, Jeannine Dabb, Jennifer Dorman, Suzi Fitz, Stephanie Gibson, Bee Grissinger ’23, Rob Homan, Callie Morton ’22, Andrew Murphy, Wrenee Murphy, Eliana Posey, Dillon Samuelson, RJ Scott, Sergxo, Joi Serra, Sabrina Worthington ’23, Terri Yacovelli, and Laura Zielinski.

The exhibition will be open to the general public during the PCA&D campus’s open hours. Coming into View will have a closing reception on March 1 from 5-8:00 PM.
