Cynthia E. Price Memorial Scholarship Awarded to Antoinette Troller

I want to thank the Price family for being so generous.“ said PCA&D Illustration student Antoinette “Annie” Troller, of Effort, PA, the recipient of the Cynthia E Price Memorial Scholarship for the 2018-19 academic year.

J. Richard “Rick” Price and his two sons Jacob and Jordan, along with their families, created the scholarship last year to remember Cynthia, their wife and mother, an artist and craftswoman who worked, lived, and loved in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

According to Price, “My family and I established this scholarship in the name of my wife Cindy who was an artist all her life. She saw the world of art as a way to give back to the community.  We saw the same look in Antoinette’s eyes that Cindy had every day of her life: looking at the world through a different lens, a different view, looking for color, for contrast. That curious look was appreciated seeing in Antoinette and it made us feel good to give back to the community that gave to us all the years we had Cindy.”

Troller said, “Art is meant to start a conversation, get people talking, and make the world a better place. Through Illustration and Design, I want to be the one to make a change. I have always loved creating and problem solving ever since I could remember, but taking the step to move to Lancaster and attend this school has been the best decision I have made for my career by far.”

Troller has already tackled some bigger topics like the opioid crisis, gender and sexuality in young children, and the possible extinction of bees. She said, “Through the help of the Cynthia E. Price scholarship, I hope to be able to expand my interest in different media in order to explore more of the art world that surrounds me.”

Rick Price said, “Cindy found beauty in everything and helped with everything.” The scholarship seemed like the natural thing to do.” The goal of this scholarship is to offset a portion of the expenditure that visual arts students often incur for their tuition in the pursuit of progressing their knowledge and advancing their skillset.

Cynthia E. Price passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2016. As an artist, she took cues from the natural landscape she experienced as a child growing up in Lancaster County and during her travels abroad to produce rich and accessible representations of the world she saw around her. Her stylistic monogram and initial designs led her to open a small shop, Love Letters, at Building Character, where demand for her paintings, unique furniture, and decorative accessories enabled expansion and transition into what became Sanctuary.

The recipient of the scholarship was selected by the College based on criteria set by the family including, the student has advanced beyond the first year of studies, is pursuing a degree in visual arts, has a strong academic and work ethic, as indicated by a GPA of not less than 3.50, and is determined to improve the world around them through the expression of their art work.

This is the second year for the scholarship. In 2017-2018, the recipient of the scholarship was Leah Limpert Walt, a non-traditional fine art student from York, PA. Walt received the top graduation honors at commencement in May 2018, and is involved in exhibiting her art and organizing artist groups in York.
