Pennsylvania College of Art & Design is pleased to announce that Alexia Eggleston of Laurel, Maryland, a junior Photography & Video major, has been selected as the 2021-22 recipient of the Mary Colleen Heil Presidential Scholarship. Eggleston’s participation in College and department activities and professionalism led to the recommendation for the scholarship.

Eggleston is a “quiet but strong leader among their cohort, who leads through their strong work ethic,” says Eric Weeks, Chair of Photography & Video at PCA&D. “They are an excellent student with a high GPA, who is making challenging work about identity, race, and sexuality. Their ability to accept constructive criticism is remarkable.”

During their time at PCA&D, Eggleston has served as a member of BLAC, the College’s Black Led Art Coalition; has participated in the PCA&D-Zayed Photography Exchange with Zayed University in Abu Dhabi; and has exhibited in three CORE Gallery shows: Reawakening, Per Aspera Ad Astra, and While I Breathe, I Hope.

This scholarship award was established by the Board of Trustees of Pennsylvania College of Art & Design in 2018 to honor President Emeritus Mary Colleen Heil in recognition of her 25 years of leadership and dedication to the College.

The scholarship is awarded annually to an exceptional rising junior student who has been identified by the Dean of the Faculty in consultation with the Department Chairs.
