Christy Hess named Chair of the Illustration Department.

Christina Hess has been named to the position of Chair of the Illustration Department. Hess is a current full-time faculty member and a practicing professional illustrator. She has a diverse skill set that moves between traditional and digital techniques, as well as cross-discipline experience that supports a growing shared curriculum stemming from the Communication as Currency initiative at the college. Hess has taught at PCA&D since 2005 and maintains her professional practice as an illustrator and designer in the publishing industry.
She has won awards and admittance into annuals and competitions including: Imagine FX Magazine Artist of the Month; Phillustration 4 Best of Show; Spectrum 18,19 & 20; Exotique 7; Silver Award for Self Promo category in the Society of Illustrators 50 LA; Expose 10 & 11; 3×3 Magazine’s Children’s Book Annual and 3×3 Magazine’s Pro Show. In addition, Hess’s “Animals from History” series was funded by 123 backers on kickstarter.com and was featured on CBS.com, Juxtapose Magazine, io9.com, ModernMet.com and Jezebel Magazine. In addition she recently was published in Women of Wonder as one of several award winning women artists in illustration. In July, She was the guest of honor at Armadillocon, an annual literary conference in Austin, TX, featuring science fiction and fantasy.

Hess replaces the previous Chair of Illustration, Robert Hochgertel who will remain as Associate Professor at the College.
