Designathon ’24 breathes life into new branding for seven non-profit organizations

Monday, February 12th, 2024

“We were blown away by their creativity and grateful for the hard work and commitment they dedicated to this project.”

That was the response from representatives of Schreiber Center for Pediatric Development, whose programs got a new logo branding design courtesy of Designathon ’24 last weekend.

Thanks to the volunteer students, faculty, staff, and alumni who teamed up this year to work on design projects for seven regional non-profits via the 2024 Designathon. This year’s edition, held over 12 hours on Saturday, Feb. 10, was just the most recent of an annual event held by the College’s AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Arts) Student Chapter. From posters and logos to web design and brochures, the seven teams worked on projects for The Common Wheel, Covenant United Methodist Church, Elizabethtown Fire Department, St. Luke’s United Church of Christ, Lancaster STEM, the League of Women Voters, and Schreiber Center for Pediatric Development.

Students and alumni signed up to take part on teams included Aiyana Alvarado ’25, Graphic Design; Renee Althouse ’26, Graphic Design; Paige Alana Bowermaster ’23, Graphic Design; Logan Byer, Design Thinking; Rachael L. Clough ’24, Graphic Design; Coby Correll ’25, Graphic Design; Lenny Dickson ’24, Graphic Design; Matthew Dornan ’25, Graphic Design; Ryan Gano ’26, Graphic Design; Cleo Kendrick ’24, Graphic Design; Olivia Kenny ’23, Illustration; Maddie Lyash ’21, Graphic Design; Alisdair Mackenzie ’24, Graphic Design; Ryan Makowski ’24, Graphic Design; Sophia Phillips ’24, Graphic Design; Maddie Reynolds ’25, Graphic Design; Emma Ries ’26, Graphic Design; Alyssa Rulii ’24, Graphic Design; Bailey Stechman ’25, Graphic Design; Jas Stokes ’23, Illustration; Austin Taylor ’24, Graphic Design; Shalin Thomas ’26, Graphic Design; and Taj Younger ’25, Illustration.

Special thanks, too, to the faculty who served as event organizers and team leaders guiding those new branding elements to life: Graphic Design Department Chair Maria Hostetter and faculty members Pamela Barby, Bill Dussinger, Melissa Ries, and Rieko Chacey
