The Pennsylvania College of Art & Design announces creation of the Esports Team as an opportunity for students to engage in community and enhance critical thinking and leadership skills. In celebration, both admitted and current students will be eligible to apply for $5,000 scholarships during this 2020 founding year that will be awarded on the basis of skill along with academic merit.

Sign up for an information session, where you’ll hear from an expert April 10 and April 17, 2020 at 3 p.m.

As one of the first professional arts colleges with a competitive esports team, PCA&D aims to offer students outlets for competitive gaming while, at the same time, continuing to develop the skills to imagine, create, and market games.

Current and prospective students will be invited to participate in remote tryouts for the PCA&D Overwatch and League of Legends teams on April 25 and 26 , 2020 at 3 p.m. Sign up for tryouts by April 23, 2020.

The initiative to establish the PCA&D team grew from the leadership and vision of the College’s Competitive Gaming Club.

PCA&D recognizes the value that an esports program can offer students. Through organized teamplay, students are honing invaluable soft skills that are necessary in every career.

Students on the PCA&D Esports Team will be competing in popular titles, such as League of Legends and Overwatch both competitively and casually.

This co-curricular opportunity will also work in conjunction with our academic departments, specifically with Animation & Game Art and through a new Esports Management curriculum which is currently under development. That department’s curriculum offers tracks in:

  • Character Animation for Games
  • Environment Modeling for Games
  • Level Design for Games
  • Visual Development for Games

Interested in applying for our $5,000 scholarships? First, head over to our try-outs signup form. Next, fill out the scholarship application form, including your response to one of two short-answer prompts. Complete your tryouts. You will be notified via email or Discord regarding scheduling.

Each student will be contacted with the outcome of their application. We intend to award esports scholarships prior to June 1, 2020.
