We wanted to take a moment to introduce you to our PCA&D Student Ambassadors for the 2018-2019 school year. We’re going to spend one post at a time on who they are, why they chose PCA&D, and a glimpse at some of their work. Other than thinking they are generally really great, Student Ambassadors are at just about every Open House event that we host so if you’re planning on attending one in the near future, you’ll have the opportunity to spend some time getting to know them even better.

 

But wait, what’s a student ambassador? Good question. Student Ambassadors  are current PCA&D students that serve as representatives of the college. They work primarily with the admissions department where they serve as guides for prospective students and their parents, art teachers, and guidance counselors. Student Ambassadors provide important insight into the creative environment found in our degree programs and they create an important link to prospective students who want to be part of the PCA&D community.

 

Let’s get started! We are excited to introduce you to Adam Leitzel, Photography major. He is originally from Lititz, PA and graduated from Warwick High School.

 

As you were searching and comparing colleges, what attracted you to PCA&D?

AL: The location is what specifically drew me in. My hometown is about 20 minutes from the college. This made it possible for me to commute and save extra money.

What do you love about Lancaster city?

AL: I really like First Fridays. The city comes alive with music, art, and food. The three best things the world has to offer.

Which clubs or activities have you become involved in?

AL: I’m not in any clubs right now, but I am a photo technician at the school as well as a student ambassador.

What are you looking forward to most this school year?

AL: I am really looking forward to creating a photography book in my Digital Imaging Course.

What does being a Student Ambassador mean to you and what advice do you like to share with them?

AL: Being a Student Ambassador allows me to connect to prospective students and their parents and talk to them about PCA&D, my major, and what the College has to offer to them. If the student is interested in photography, I like to bring them into our darkrooms to show off how large of a space we have to work in an analog format. I like to tell them to keep an open mind during the Foundation year (first-year). Even if you’re not into drawing, painting, sculpture, etc. as your primary medium of choice, you can learn a thing or two and then you will be able to apply it to the art form that you ARE finding the most comfort.

What non-classroom experience from your time at PCA&D will you always remember?

AL: Whenever semester finals roll around, the sections of the building where the photography students work gets real rowdy. Its super fun being with such a tight knit group of people all trying to bang out our final projects. Everyone is helping each other print in the darkrooms, set up lights in the lighting studio, or just goofing off in an effort to de-stress.

Talk to us about your inspirations in the classroom?

AL: The photography department has the best professors. They all push for you to be the best artist that you can be and are supportive of whatever type of art you want to make. They are all working artists so it’s neat to see what they are making outside of class.

AL: “Sometimes you gotta work a little so you can ball a lot.” – Tom Haverford
