Meet Ariana Pluchinsky: Illustration Student Ambassador

. . .

Friday, November 18th, 2016

Ariana Pluchinsky, a senior Illustration major from City High School in Pittsburgh, PA, is this week’s featured student ambassador.

Ari enjoys being a Student Ambassador because she gets to be the face of the college’s largest major. She likes to watch new students come to open houses and get really excited about their passion. “That’s the coolest part.”

Some of Ariana’s thoughts:

What words of wisdom would you share with a prospective student?

Don’t get discouraged. Just embrace everything that fuels your passion.

As you were searching and comparing colleges, what attracted you to PCA&D?

I liked the small class size the most. I like one-on-one interaction that meant that the professors get to know you really well.  They can point you in the direction of resources that they think you would like.

What surprised you about Lancaster and why?

There are a lot of great restaurants. So many more than I expected.

For a family who has never been to Lancaster before, what tip would you share about the city?

Lancaster Central Market is a great resource, but get there early if you want to get good stuff.

When giving a tour what is one thing you are sure to show?

I enjoy showing them around the school; what they want to see or their intended major. It’s the most rewarding experience when they get excited seeing the artwork all over the walls.

Which PCA&D professor has impacted you the most?

There have been so many. My mentor Jeff McComsey has definitely had the greatest impact on me. He was my pre-animation class professor and, after I took his class, he started to help me out with my process for making comics. I am forever indebted to him.

Share an experience that impacted your understanding of the creative industry.

I never knew how complicated the process of publishing a book was until I attended an artist talk.

When were you inspired by another student?

My girlfriend Sam is also an illustrator. I am constantly inspired and pushed by her to do even better than last time.

What single tip would you tell an incoming student?

Get as much sleep as you can and start eating better. It’s easier to manage stress when you’re healthy.
