Meet Student Ambassador Casey Capece
Wednesday, December 27th, 2017
Casey Capece, a senior Graphic Design major from Francis Scott Key High School in Union Bridge, MD feels that being a student ambassador at PCA&D means that “I have been seen as a successful individual here and now I can share the school and my personal stories with other young artists and help lead them to be successful by just helping them with a huge decision like finding their college.”
Here are some thoughts from Casey:
Do you have a motto/favorite quote?
“Good, better, best. Never let it rest. Until your good is better and your better is best.” -Tim Duncan
What makes you laugh out loud?
Some of my favorite TV series such as The Office, Parks and Recreation and the Big Bang Theory really makes me laugh. That kind of humor in those shows always make me laugh.
As you were searching and comparing colleges, what attracted you to PCA&D?
I liked the fact that PCA&D was close to home but far enough to feel away from home. Also, I felt that the cost of tuition was definitely in the more affordable range when being compared to other known art schools near me and on the east coast in general.
What words of wisdom would you share with a prospective student?
Get a calendar to keep track of EVERYTHING. Without one, so many things can get double booked and homework might be missed.
For a family who has never been to Lancaster before, how would you describe it and what tips would you share about the city? What surprised you the most about Lancaster and why?
Lancaster is pretty unique with the mix of city, town, suburb and country. Being in the city is nice because there is a big art vibe here which is great when you’re looking for an art school. You can really get everything you need in the city from groceries at the market, to health care at CVS or Walgreens and you can catch up with friends or study at one of the many coffee shops around town.
When giving a tour (or talking about the college) what is one thing you are sure to show them (or describe)?
I always make sure to show all of the different senior spaces because each of them are just so unique and how they reflect everybody’s style and personality.
Share about an experience that impacted your understanding of the creative industry
When we have worked on client projects, it helps to understand how projects are managed in the work-world.
Thinking back on your entire experience here at PCA&D, which professor impacted you the most- how/why?
Believe it or not, I wasn’t always too crazy about drawing in itself and I always dreaded drawing classes my freshmen year. However, Professor Scullin really took time to help me improve on my skills and by the end of that year, I became a lot more confident in those skills and I know incorporate more illustration into my graphic design work.
When were you inspired by another student?
Living with another designer that has a different style has really inspired both her and I to push our work. She has a natural talent for really understanding typography and her hand lettering is awesome.
What non-classroom activity/event/whatever from your years at PCA&D will you always remember?
I will always remember Designathon. It is great being with a group of students and getting to know them for 24 hours while also helping out a local organization with their branding or marketing or whatever the case may be.
What surprised you the most about PCA&D?
I was surprised with how much time the teachers really put into their jobs. They all work in the industry and they teach plus taking extra time to email us back with feedback and help us when we have an issue throughout the week.
Student Ambassadors serve as representatives of the college. They work with the admissions department where they serve as guides for prospective students and their parents, art teachers, and guidance counselors. Student Ambassadors attend each PCA&D open house event, provide important insight into the creative environment afforded to students in our degree programs and create an important link to prospective students who want to be part of the PCA&D community.
