PCA&D sets 42nd Commencement ceremonies for Friday, May 3

Pennsylvania College of Art & Design (PCA&D) is proud to announce its 42nd Commencement on Friday, May 3, at 10 am at Barshinger Center for Musical Arts, 620 College Avenue, Lancaster. 

The College welcomes Gregg Behr and Ryan Rydzewski, authors of When You Wonder, You’re Learning, as our Commencement Speakers. Behr is the executive director of The Grable Foundation and founder of the internationally renowned Remake Learning network. A graduate of the University of Notre Dame and Duke University, he’s an advisor to The Brookings Institution and The Fred Rogers Institute, and has been honored by President Barack Obama as an innovator and thought leader.

Rydzewski, an award-winning author and speaker, is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and Chatham University. As a science and education reporter, his magazine stories focus on everything from schools to space travel to Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, and he regularly leads workshops for educators and parents. 

At the May 3 Commencement, several honors also will be presented, including: 

HONORARY DEGREE RECIPIENT: Le Hinton
Mr. Hinton is an award-winning poet, publisher, and teacher. The author of seven collections of poetry, his work has been selected for Best American Poetry, the Pennsylvania Center for the Book, and his poem “Our Ballpark,” is incorporated into the sculpture at the entrance to Lancaster city’s baseball stadium. He is the editor of the literary magazine Fledgling Rag and is the publisher of both Iris G. and I. Giraffe Press.

MEDAL OF HONOR RECIPIENTS: Becky Ault and Mike Cunningham
Ms. Ault and Mr. Cunningham are the co-founders of ART Research Enterprises, a leading producer of fine art casting and fabrication for artists, museums, architects, and corporations around the world. Their work in the conservation and restoration of art and architectural objects ensures these critical works are enjoyed by future generations.

DISTINGUISHED ALUMNA RECIPIENT: Megan Caruso ‘08, Graphic Design

Ms. Caruso is an artist, designer, and public art producer. She is best known as the creative director and co-owner of The Burg magazine and the president and co-founder of the non-profit Sprocket Mural Works, spanning both Harrisburg and York cities.
