PCA&D’s Illustration program named tops in Pennsylvania, top 50 nationally
Friday, September 12th, 2025
The Illustration Department of Pennsylvania College of Art & Design has been named the top Illustration program in the state — and a Top-10 program on the East Coast.
Those rankings, by Animation Career Review, also place the Illustration Department not only in the Top 50 nationally, but in the Top 25 nationally among private schools and colleges.
Criteria for the rankings, in no particular order, include academic reputation, employment data, admission selectivity, the program’s depth and breadth, its value as it relates to tuition and indebtedness, and its graduation and retention rates.
This is, says Illustration Department Chair Robert Young, “really a great boost as we continue to highlight our excellent students, faculty, and program on a broader, national stage.”
When Young became Illustration Department Chair in 2021, he says, “we were ranked fifth in Pennsylvania for Illustration programs, and we set a department goal to increase that ranking. So I am incredibly pleased that through the hard work of our students and faculty, we have significantly increased that ranking.”
