Why Nick Mohler takes part in the ExtraGive

Since I began working at PCA&D last December, my mother-in-law and I have met in the gallery during each new exhibition to view the works, discuss what we enjoy about them, and to just catch up on life. She’s a professional basket-maker in the area, and she enjoys it because it helps inspire and inform her work. It’s become a welcome moment for us to reconnect and discuss art, which we don’t have a regular opportunity to do otherwise during family gatherings. I’m especially excited to show her the Bisbee show next week, which is absolutely superb.

The wonderful exhibitions that Heidi plans are one of many things I enjoy about working at this art college, and it’s why I will give to the college today during the Extraordinary Give. Funds raised through ExtraGive directly help us do so many great things in the community such as provide scholarships for kids to attend youth art classes, open our doors to Artist Talks, the free class registrations for middle and high school students in the Mosaic program and so many others. We are doing great things at the college and in the community.

I plan to give in the Atrium during my lunchbreak where there’ll be giving stations setup as well as the Pop-Up Print Shop from 1 – 2 pm in case you missed your chance to get that cool design by Becky Blosser printed on a shirt. Donations (as small as $25) given during the Extra Give have a chance to be amplified with golden ticket drawings, and prizes. If you’re feeling generous, break up your larger donation to the college into several $25 gifts because each unique donation increases our chances of winning one of the bonus prizes.

And Megan Gallagher, PCA&D’s Director  of Development, says there are giveaways for faculty, students and staff who give through extragive.org, including Mean Cup Coffee and mugs, coffee from Lemon Street Market (and an $10 gift card), Two Dudes swag, including two Two Dudes pint glasses, a Mio Studio necklace that says “CREATE,” chocolate from Miesse Candies, a gift certificate for a massage by Doreen Jemison of Healing Arts,  gift cards to the Lancaster Burgr lunch truck, and more.

We probably won’t beat the golden retriever rescue, but we certainly can make an impact on providing access to the arts. I hope you join me.
