Congratulations to Aiyana Alvarado ’25, whose work has been chosen to brand the 2025 Senior Show & Celebration next May. The Graphic Design major’s work, influenced by her love of concert events, was chosen from among that of seven finalists in the Nov. 21 competition.

Six other Graphic Design seniors also presented their work to an audience of a five-judge panel and fellow students, faculty, and staff: Warren Burke, Logan Byer, Coby Correll, Matthew Dornan, Madalynne Reynolds, and Bailey Stechman.

“The biggest challenge in my process was finding the balance between what resonates with me and the facility’s values,” Alvarado said. “I went back and forth on ideas, starting from scratch multiple times to be fully satisfied. I kept asking for feedback and ultimately also wasn’t happy with what I heard, so it came to a point where I had to decide whether to cave or keep running with what I had. There was, Alvarado added, common ground between the ideas she was pursuing and the demands of what the College needs. “What mine and PCA&D’s philosophies have in common,” she said, “is that every story matters — so why should I tone down what I have to share for the sake of score and guidelines? I took every comment with grace and I persevered with what I felt so strongly about, knowing that there was a possibility that this craft would not resonate with anyone else but me, and then being OK with that result.

“I urge my fellow creatives to persevere and to hold on to what makes your inner fire burn — for our passion and creativity is something no one can ever take away from us.”

Judges from the community included Kevin Foss ’20, a graphic designer at Nimblist; Kasey Jendras, Graphic Design and Production Supervisor at Armstrong World Industries; Andrew Kinsey ’16, a freelance designer; Molly Kirchoff, Program Manager, Public Art & Urban Design, City of Lancaster; and Anthony Nardo ’20, a Studio Specialist Designer at Wellspan Health. And thanks, too, to Prof. Pam Barby, who organized the competition and coached the students, as well as PCA&D’s CFO, Todd Gettys, who compiled the judges’ scores.
