Medium, a collection of eight free public presentations focusing on arts mediums, will be on display in the York art space, Work/Space, operated by Pennsylvania College of Art & Design June 2-14. Work/Space is located at 133 S. Duke St., York. Medium is the concept of Gettysburg-based artist Andrew Smith and is presented by PCA&D Work/Space.
Artists who will present during Medium include Reagan Bitler (June 3, 6:30 pm, gourd artwork); Ophelia Chambliss (June 11, 6:30-8 pm, acrylic on Pellon); Cultural Alliance of York County (Rita Whitney and Kelley Gibson, 6:30 pm, State of the Shifting Ground on Local, State, and Federal Cultural Support); Kristin Kest (June 9, 6:30 pm, Bas-Relief as Pictorial Space & Clay Handbuilding); Mary Moores (June 4, 6:30 pm, Pastels); Andrew Smith (June 12, 6:30 pm, Clay Monoprint Discussion & Demonstration with work by medium creator Mitch Lyons); Helen Tafesse (June 8, 6:30 pm, Conceptual Design); and Terri Yacovelli (June 10, 6:30-7:30 pm, Encaustic Demonstration).
On Friday, June 13, a Clay Monoprint Exhibit will be held from 4-8 pm, with works by series organizer Andrew Smith and the clay monoprint medium’s creator, the late Mitch Lyons. Works by Smith will be offered for sale.
“The clay monoprint art medium that I work in is an unusual one, and I’m always fascinated by the many unique techniques found in the other mediums that artists choose to use,” Smith noted. “I find it interesting to see the behind-the-scenes view of these creators expressing their visions. When setting up the Medium series, I asked artists who I wanted to hear and learn from.”
No reservations are required for the presentations, but seating is limited to 24 audience members. Doors open at least 30 minutes before the scheduled session. For updates and more information, visit bit.ly/YorkMedium.
