Through the lens of a tabletop roleplaying game, Charles Beach’s thesis plays with an aesthetic of vintage sci-fi to explore themes of absurdity. Working with photoshop and indesign, Charles has assembled a 32-page roleplaying booklet for a roleplaying game he has named “Lostronauts”. Inspired by media like the 1965 series “Lost in Space”, Douglas Adams’ “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”, and “Galaxy Science Fiction Magazine”, Charles recreated a vintage sci-fi look, not just in literal content, but also in the graphic layout and coloring. To this end, Charles has worked in a digital recreation of old CMYK halftone coloring processes, coloring in individual layers of cyan, magenta, and yellow dots to create the images found in the book.
