- The work of PCA&D graduate Emily Adleblute ’13, Illustration, was recognized in an April LNP/LancasterOnline article about people getting their first tattoos when they’re older. Adleblute, who co-runs Black Altar Collective studio in downtown Lancaster, shared tips for older people who want to go for a tattoo. To see her work, visit @back.alley.emily on Instagram.
- Your Next Destination, an exhibition featuring the work of five PCA&D faculty members, opens June 10 in the Chesapeake Gallery of Harford Community College in Maryland. The show highlights all colleges that share partnerships with HCC, showing them where they can go and who they might learn from at those institutions. PCA&D has a 2+2 agreement with Harford. PCA&D faculty featured in the exhibition include Becky Blosser, Aaron Thompson, Maria Hostetter, Eric Weeks, and David Johanson. An opening reception will be held June 13 at 5 pm, and the show runs througn Sept. 30.
- A digital collage by Rieko Chacey (Adjunct, Graphic Design) will be exhibited in the Asia North 2024 Exhibition Love Letters to Baltimore and the DMV May 3 through June 1 at Towson University’s Asian Arts and Culture Center. The show celebrates Baltimore’s Charles North-Station North neighborhood’s constantly evolving identities as a Koreatown, arts district, and creative hub.
- Congratulations to four PCA&D Graphic Design students for being recognized as GDUSA Package Design winners! The four — Rachael Clough, Maliyah Gregg, Cleo Kendrick, and Austin Taylor — all are seniors in Prof. Tom Newmaster‘s Packaging Design class. Their work was among the 10 percent of 2,400-plus entries to be so honored.
- Congratulations go out to McKenna DiComo ’24, Abe Peña ’24, and Samantha Sidesinger ’25, all Animation & Game Art majors, whose work has been featured in Toon Boom’s Storyboard Showreel for 2024! You can catch their work on YouTube here. The reel reflects work that storyboard artists and animators worldwide created in various styles, all made using Toon Boom Storyboard Pro.
- Self-Identities, the podcast hosted by AJ Nutter ’10 (Adjunct, Photography & Video) and his collaborator, Dr. Kathryn Whitely, was recently featured on the WITF program The Spark. Together Nutter and Whitely, a feminist criminologist, visited maximum security prison SCI Muncy to conduct interviews with women serving life sentences for murder. The podcast aims to engage in conversations with the women to gain a deeper understanding of who they are as individuals. “Our focus,” Nutter says, “is to move away from sensationalizing their crimes and instead approach the discussions from an educational perspective, featuring in-depth interviews.” You can read the WITF article about Self-Identities here, or listen to The Spark‘s interview episode with Nutter and Whitely here. When the Lancaster Stormers baseball team took the field for opening day last month, a little piece of PCA&D also made its lineup debut. A new ballcap design, created by Graphic Design junior Maddie Reynolds, will go on sale in the team’s store. Reynolds’ design, a curved “Stormers” text superimposed over an outline of homeplate, carries over a simple, but vintage, vibe. Five junior-year finalists from Prof. Pam Barby‘s Graphic Design class — Warren Burke, Bahir Harris, Aiyana Alvarado, and Leslie Bosch, along with Reynolds — were chosen, and Reynolds’ design was chosen by a public vote on social media.
- Aaron Thompson (Assistant Professor, Fine Art / Foundation) had work on display April 18-21 at MH Gallery, 42 W. Market St., Marietta, as part of his role as juror for River Towns Plein Air.
- Jason Ward (Adjunct, CCE, Fine Art, Foundation, Illustration) and Leah Limpert Walt ’18 (Adjunct, CCE, Illustration) served as curators for Moments of Atmosphere, which was on view through April 30 at Garden Spot Village. The exhibition featured 20 regional artists and their interpretations of contemporary landscapes. In addition to the curators, artists included several with PCA&D ties: Aaron Thompson (Assistant Professor, Fine Art/Foundation); Matt Allyn Chapman ’08 (Adjunct, Fine Art/Foundation); Aubrey Maurer ’22, Fine Art; Evan Kitson ’10 (Adjunct, Fine Art); and Sheri Hansen (CCE instructor).
