CORE Gallery has collaborated with BLAC, PCA&D’s Black Led Art Coalition, for CORE’s new exhibition. Works Cited, which opened last week in the CORE space.

In its curatorial statement, BLAC says that Works Cited ” is an exhibition that addresses the way that our fight for equality as African Americans is not a fad, nor was it spontaneously created in the past two years.

From censorship in the media to skewed news coverage, to appropriation of cultural norms, Black trauma has become a trend to facilitate performative activism rather than sparking conversation about the problems at hand. It is important to remember that Black Lives Matter is not just a trend but a way to insight change in our society that Black lives are valued. The goal of this exhibition is to pair the Black experience with the things big and small that impact the way we see and interact with the world around us. Works Cited is meant to show hope for the future in a present where the fight is far from over.”
