Description
Unlock the art of bookmaking in this hands-on class! In this workshop, you will learn the timeless craft of Coptic stitch bookbinding, a versatile and beautiful method used to create custom journals, sketchbooks, and more.
Whether you’re an artist looking for a personalized sketchbook or simply love working with your hands, this class will guide you through every step of the process. You’ll begin by familiarizing yourself with the essential tools of bookbinding, including an awl, bone folder, sewing needle, waxed thread, and ruler. Then, you’ll dive into the process of creating your own book from scratch. Starting with chipboard and craft paper, you’ll design and assemble your book covers, fold paper to create signatures (groupings of pages), and use an awl to punch holes for the stitching. Once your materials are prepped, you’ll learn the art of the Coptic stitch—a method known for its decorative and functional binding. No prior bookbinding experience is necessary.
This course must meet minimum enrollment by March 5 in order to run. Register today!
