Description

In this Walk and Write workshop, you have the opportunity to explore Lancaster city’s natural environments and use the landscape, interactions, perceptions, and reflections as creative inspiration. This workshop will foster attention to the senses and sensory detail and focus on a specific theme. You will gain a deeper appreciation for the environment and community and develop tools of awareness, perception, and expression. Additionally, this  opportunity may awaken in you an interest or talent for writing, contemplation, and/or nature observation. After welcomes and introductions, you will be led on a semi-guided two-hour walking and writing tour of Demuth Gardens.

You will have the opportunity to:
  • Cultivate a sensitivity for the 5+ senses
  • Interact intentionally with the environment, ideas, and others
  • Develop a relationship between perception, experience, and written expression
  • Explore different types of walking and writing (contemplative, functional, creative)
  • Practice slowing down and moving at a slower pace, physically and mentally
  • Foster an appreciation for variety and difference

At the end of the workshop, you will have a draft of a poem, essay, or story written during the session with feedback from the instructor and other participants. These Walk and Writes are inspired by the work of Pittsburgh-based writer, Sherrie Flick, and supported by science.

This course must meet minimum enrollment by July 18 in order to run. Register today!
