Description

Does your child in 6-8 grade have a passion for creativity and creation? Let us nurture their curiosity and abilities in an intensive and supportive week-long camp exploring the fine arts, design, and master crafts. At PCA&D’s Center for Creative Exploration and Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen Ultimate Art Camp, your child will learn the significance of thinking like an artist with lessons that will inform and enhance their personal and skill development.

Students will start the day at Pennsylvania College of Art & Design learning a variety of art-making techniques, such as drawing, printmaking, and more before breaking for lunch. Then campers will be escorted to the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen for an afternoon of fine craft and will explore work in areas such as fused glass, mosaic, felting, clay and more! Parents will pick up students at the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen located just a little over two blocks away from Pennsylvania College of Art & Design. On the final day of camp, PCA&D will host all of the work created in an exhibition at their location from 4:15 – 5:15 pm, July 25.

This program is open to all skill levels and provides an atmosphere for self-discovery, camaraderie, and small-group learning. All supplies are included in the cost of the camp.

Students should bring lunch and snacks to camp each day. Food brought to campus should NOT contain any nuts, seeds, or shellfish. PCA&D has refrigerators and microwaves for student use. Several classrooms at the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen are located on the second floor of the building and the building does not have an elevator. The jewelry & glass studio is on the first floor of the building and is wheelchair accessible. Please contact kelly@pacrafts.org to find out more about classrooms.

This course must meet minimum enrollment by July 14 in order to run. Register today!

Instructor Bios:

Nichole Madonna – Nichole Madonna is from Lancaster and received a BFA with a focus on abstract painting from PCA&D. Nichole currently teaches at Lancaster Friends School. Nichole loves working in sketchbooks, creating art out of found objects, creating abstract artwork with a focus on color, texture and mark-making. When Nichole isn’t creating art, you can find her in nature with her family or reading non-fiction and autobiographies.

Kathleen Forney – Kathleen is a fused glass artist, based in Elizabethtown, and has been creating designs in glass for years. Prior to glass, she has worked with various mediums, which include mosaics, enamels, acrylics, mixed media, and clay. Her role as a “professional artist” began at the early age of 10 when she sold her first painting in her family’s gallery in Berkeley Heights, NJ. Her inspiration continues to be the amazing gems in nature waiting to be discovered. Over the years she has had the privilege to teach various mediums to enthusiastic students who range in age from 6 years of age to late adulthood. As a teacher, it is rewarding to watch students create “their masterpiece.” She strives to make her classes for all students engaging, rewarding, and fun.

Lisa Haldeman is a local, self-taught fiber and polymer clay artist whose miniature dolls and whimsical wool creations have been displayed and sold at craft shows, galleries, and online stores for 15 years.  She has taught classes at SPLAT Studio in Annville, Hope at Hand Ministry (various locations) and at Landis Valley.  She especially loves helping people learn the fun and fulfilling craft of needle felting!  www.lovinclaydolls.etsy.com

Tara Potter – As an experienced glass artist, Potter turned to felting in search of a more freeform way for self expression. Their journey into fiber art began during a trip to Peru, where they were inspired by the intricate textile traditions and the beauty of Alpaca wool. This sparked a deep curiosity to explore felting further. Since then, Potter has taken numerous online courses in wet and needle felting, refining skills and developing a style that blends traditional techniques with contemporary design. Their work is a reflection of their ongoing exploration of texture, color, and the natural world, capturing the beauty and creativity found in nature.

Aya Kinoshita – Kinoshita is a mosaic artist living in Lancaster, PA. She is originally from Tokyo, Japan. She has enjoyed working with visual and performing artists and also researching and teaching about art management and cultural anthropology. Since 2016, she has been making mosaics and made multiple mosaic murals for Penn State Medical Centers in and around Lancaster. https://ayatrapeze.wixsite.com/mosaics

Karen Peiffer – Peiffer was drawn to ceramic arts because it is a natural complement to cooking, gardening, and entertaining – all of which they love to do. Their work is predominantly thrown or hand-build functional stoneware but they also enjoy creating traditional redware and wood fired pieces.  As a “lifelong learner” Peiffer has been a potter for 20+ years and maintains a studio in their home in Lititz, PA. Peiffer has had structured education through workshops and small groups taught by several professional potters and they are always looking for a better process and result. aThey are inspired by artists who constantly seek to reinvent themselves and their work. In recent years they have spent time working and creating stained glass work and developing their skills in that medium. Peiffer obtained their BS from Penn State University and my MBA from Loyola College, MD. They are the President of the Board of Directors for the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen headquartered in Lancaster, PA.
