Description
Students in this class will learn deeper color theory, matching color, and mixing color strings to organize their values, block in shapes and composition design, the various substrates (or surfaces) and their preparation. We will experiment with different styles of oil painting and application techniques to streamline your process and solidify your artistic voice, and discuss those relationships to historical and contemporary contexts.
Classes will begin with a lecture and demonstration, each week building on the last. The first week history and materials will be covered, then we will experiment with pigment mixing and palette navigation. The second week we will explore more historical context of modern practices and technique while you complete a master copy of your choice in alla prima format. The third and fourth week will cover observational practices and the stages of indirect painting will be explored.
This course must meet minimum enrollment by January 25 in order to run. Register today!
