Description
In this class for grades 9-12, students will be guided through the entire art-making process for comics and graphic novels. Students will be given a basic understanding of comic design theory, perspective drawing, and anatomy drawing which will prepare them for completing a two-page comic spread. Students will be shown demonstrations for each step, and guided as much or as little as needed to make sure that they leave this workshop with the knowledge of how to finish the rest of their story, how to self-publish it, and then how to move on to the next one. This class is perfect for any students that are ready to tackle big projects, or those that want to see what goes into creating comics to help decide if this is something they’d love to keep doing.
This is a credit-bearing class and grades will be given. Please check the supply list tab for materials needed to complete this class.
This course must meet minimum enrollment by June 30 in order to run. Register today!
Supply List
- Sketchbook or notebook for notes and sketching
- Pencils – mechanical or wooden (can be a color or just normal graphite)
- Ruler or T-Square (12″-18″ works best)
- 11″x17″ Bristol board sheets (or a whole pad if you want to continue making your comic)
- Pens and Inks – Can be brushes and bottled ink, or you can get mono-line pens, brush pens, etc. Anything with ink that is water-resistant works best. Pentel Pocket brushes are fantastic for this as well as Uni Pin Pens.
- Coloring tools (pick one or none) – ONLY if you want to color your comic – colored pencils, colored inks, watercolors, gouache, etc.
- Any supplies necessary for helping your coloring tools: Watercolor brushes, palettes, water cups, etc.
- White gel pens, white out pens, or white acrylic paint and small brush – this is how we fix mistakes in ink or add by taking away.
