Supply List
- Students may choose to work digitally or traditionally, but an emphasis will be placed on traditional tools for this class.
- If working digitally, students must bring their own tools, chargers, tablets, etc. Electricity is accessible in the room.
- If working traditionally, students may bring one thing or a few things from each category below that works best for them. Don’t forget that art is all about having fun and experimenting to learn new things!
- DRAWING/ SKETCHING
- Sketchbook, notepads with dots or graph lines, or any type of paper that is easy to take notes, sketch, and just get messy. You just need one sketchbook or a few pieces of paper.
- A pad of tracing paper (8.5″x11″ or larger) will help you with sketching and fixing sketches in this class, but they are not 100% necessary.
- Pencils: Mechanical or wood work fine. The thicker the graphite, the better for starting drawings. Thinner or sharper graphite for more refined art.
- Erasers: Kneaded, plastic, rubber, or whatever works best for you.
- Pens: Water resistant inks, brush pens, white out pens (or white gel pens). Can be in any color that you’d like to finalize your drawing. NOTE: Ink/ Pens are NOT REQUIRED. It is perfectly acceptable to finish your drawings in graphite as well. So please think ahead to what you’d like to accomplish to decide what tools will be best for you to purchase. Or, just get them all and have fun experimenting!
- COLOR/ FINISH:
- Alcohol-based markers, acrylic paint, colored pencils, watercolors, gouache, watercolor pencils, brushes, crayons (professional quality or even Crayola if you have a specific vision), charcoal, or any other traditional tools will work for this.
- Paper, canvas, board, or any other surface that follows the ideal finish for your piece. The final image will be created as 10″x15″, so please pick something that is at least 10″ on its shortest side.
- Choose paper that fits with what your final illustration will be in. However, when in doubt, buy heavyweight bristol or watercolor paper or let’s talk on the first day of class.
