Description

“American Gothic” by Gordon Parks, and “The Kitchen Table Series” by Carrie Mae Weems all use photography as a way to not only capture the story of the human experience, but tells it in a way where words don’t always reach. The Essentials to Narrative Photography, led by Photojournalist and Cultural Bearer, Shelby E. Wormley is a course for ages 12+ that will explore the fundamental elements to crafting a story through still images.

Students are encouraged to use digital, instand, phone, or film cameras (note that students using film will need to process images outside of classtime). Together, we will learn about the basic rules of composition through hands on demonstration. You will walk away from this class with a knowledge of creative techniques that you can use when exploring photography.

Experience Level: Curious Beginner! Students should have a basic understanding of how to operate their camera.
