Description

This sewing camp will cover basic hand sewing terms and techniques, including how to use a needle and thread, pins, scissors and fabrics. The main goal is to understand, and practice with, the tools for basic sewing, so that students can create and mend items that are made in textiles. In addition to the basic tools and techniques, students will learn skills such as how to use a sewing machine, how to hem, and how to sew on a button. After brief presentations of the tools and uses, students will practice using these tools by creating both a ‘sampler’ and a small project such as a pouch/purse. Students will use the basic tools for hand sewing, such as needle, thread, pins, scissors, seam ripper. They will also learn about fabrics, such as woven and knit, and the differences in sewing on each. Each student will also finish camp with their own sewing kit so they can continue to create! This is a studio based class with lots of guidance and demonstration. Expect to have lots of creative freedom within the bounds of the assignment!

Camp culminates in an exhibition on the final day that is open to friends and family to attend!

NOTE: Please check the supply list for suggested camp supplies.

This course must meet minimum enrollment by July 13 in order to run. Register today!
