Description

Break free from the norms of traditional filmmaking and storytelling. Whether you’re interested in learning more about experimental films and filmmaking, or interested in making your own films, this course will give you the background and techniques to get you moving in your experimental filmmaking journey.

In this course, we’ll explore the history of Avant Garde and experimental film to give us a context for the approaches and techniques that make a film “experimental,” while giving you a space to put knowledge to practice as you create your own short film. Part of our time will be spent learning about the history and elements of craft of experimental film. The majority of our time will be spent conceptualizing, shooting, and editing a short experimental film.

Day One: After a brief lecture on the history, context, and techniques of experimental film, students will conceptualize, plan, and produce a short experimental film. You will be expected to do some work on your film between classes.

Day Two: Students will come in with works in progress which will be looked at as a group and individually. Each will be given feedback and guidance.

This course must meet minimum enrollment by January 31 in order to run. Register today!
