Description
Do you need to set intentional time for immersing yourself in making and creating? Have you been looking for ways to try new creative outlets but can’t find the time to schedule all of the things you would like to explore? Join instructors from the Center for Creative Exploration at Pennsylvania College of Art & Design and the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen for a very special Make and Create retreat with sessions every Friday in March!
Your first two Friday mornings will be spent at the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen exploring botanical resin jewelry, creating your own natural inks, and creating your own personal sketchbook. The next two Friday mornings take place at the Pennsylvania College of Art & Design where you will dive into portrait drawing and intuitive art making that encourages you to explore varied and new materials. Each day wraps up before lunch allowing you to explore the ample and exciting restaurant options within walking distance in downtown Lancaster!
Students will create two kinds of botanical ink using plants and additives. While our ink is cooking we’ll make a unique cloth cover for our sketchbooks by steaming flowers and leaves. Then sew several folios of watercolor and drawing paper. And finally put everything together for a personalized sketchbook from top to bottom. Please wear old clothes.
This portrait workshop teaches anatomy of the face and head and the proportions of the features in relation to the head in order to maintain perspective and accurate likeness. It covers measuring techniques and drawing techniques that help maintain structure and proportions as the drawing progresses, as well as modeling techniques to build value and form. Students should expect to take notes and complete a portrait drawing in charcoal or graphite from a provided reference.
In this creative workshop, you will be introduced to loose, process-focused art-making using approachable materials such as watercolor, charcoal, soft pastel, pencils, and acrylic markers. Through playful techniques and observational drawing, you will explore how to use each medium in a without focusing on a polished piece. You’ll walk away with a deeper connection to your creative intuition, the tools and techniques to continue an expressive art-making practice and comfort with experimentation.
This course must meet minimum enrollment by February 27 in order to run. Register today!
